My dear friend Polly Bergen passed away yesterday. Polly fought courageously for women and reproductive rights, for people with AIDS and for many other social causes. I met Polly in 1988 when she donated her time and talent to make a difference in the fight against AIDS in my film Mother, Mother. Her creative contribution and vocal support helped make the film possible. I was thrilled when Polly agreed to play my mother Muriel in my next film In the Blink of an Eye, again moved to lend her voice and talent to a project exposing injustice. Polly was fearless, outspoken and always did it her way. She was my hero and inspiration. Theres a hole in my heart and I will love her and miss her forever.
