My deepest condolences to one of my good friends MSS Pandian. He was one of the best scholars in using Gramscian (philoshophy of ideological hegemonism) tool for research. It was best exemplified in his book, Image Trap. He discussed the draft with me before it was finalised by him. We never saw eye to eye to with each other, particularly on the issue of his assessment of Karunanithi and Dravidian movement. He always proclaimed himself as a Dravidian scholar devoted to the development of backward castes in Tamil Nadu. We had a heated exchange when he wrote an article praising Lalu Yadav, ironically, when Lalu was charged with or arrested for fodder scam, in one of his articles published in a popular daily in Tamil Nadu. But, Our difference of opinions never came in the way of my admiration towards him.
