My experience(s) with random act of Kindness! prakashanbv.simplesite We were into a one week training and on the third day the teacher declared Today you all should do a random act of kindness” Well with a mind clearly defined to do a Random act of kindness we all came out of our class room in the early morning.......I was too eager to do something immediately...Spotted the elderly person who was in the back bench in the same class room a little while ago walking ...Asked DO you need a drop?, Promptly came the reply, I live across the road, Determined to do something more meaningful started driving home looking for every possible opportunities. Fine; Thought would do something for my wife. Reached home and asked in the most pleasing manner; - Do you need any help before you go for work? I could even drop you at your office today. Since you go for this class so early in the morning I also start my day early and finished all the chores and I am joining my colleague who goes early and who is likely to pass by our house now.....NO luck.! On the way to work I was looking for elderly people walking thinking that I will offer drop to someone who is in need of that.....Was unlucky again! I generally pass by a temple on my way and I have always seen the young boy who assists the priest and who needed the financial help for his studies. And done a little bit for the boy earlier , thought of catching up with him...The priest said the boy is no longer interested in studies and moved back to his village . By now I have started getting frustrated, I had this as a sort of my “corporate goal” to finish this task and was already started feeling like an under performer.... I knew that Driver Shiva needed help and for quite some time I have avoided him unknowingly! Fate has it that he too relocated... Thought of calling my other classmates who all had the same agenda to find how much they had progressed. Some said they will finish the work for the day first, Some didnt answer my call .Another friend said he was too eager to finish it off that he has hired an auto and when the auto stopped at the filling station he proudly came out of the auto and declared to the elderly driver that he want to pay for the filling charges, which was out rightly rejected by the auto driver, Not only that..... and the driver added- I have been working for the last thirty five years in the city and never taken any such favor from any one and will not take anything more than your auto fare to where I am supposed to drop you in a matter of fact tone of someone who has seen enough of life!. Stopped at the restaurant tried to have a cup of tea, Seen this boy cleaning and always felt sorry for the young boy, Thought of calling him to my side and offer him any help for studies or whatever...I waived at him several times so that I could ask what he needed the most, he kept on sending the same arrogant waiter and this happened a couple of times, It was so agonizing that I stopped thinking of helping him.... Thought I will be nice with my colleagues and help someone....Well I should have known this,-- Nobody takes or offers help at the workplace that easily!, very strange!, Why is it that I havent observed it being there for such a long time!...Been in this for donkey number of years and still cant figure it out;- the strange ways of life at the workplace, When you want to help someone workplace is the last thing you should look at as no one would take it that easily. Leave it, you may even be looked up with a lot of skepticism. I was tired and beaten up by the time I reached home, remembered that I havent done my random act ---- I saw my maid who was about to leave as I entered the house, I have had difficult experiences with the maids earlier and lost good amount of money wherein they take advance and then disappear into thin air, Keeping this in mind while I recruited this person I told her that I am not in any advance payment business, true as it is as I am already tired of losing money. But then NOW, I have a task to be completed! I told her that you have been kind enough to help us for the past 5 years and we wanted to do something for a long time and handed over in a cover some amount of money, She gave a bewildered look but probably sensing some helpless look on my face she took it somehow...But then today she gave a big shock by handing back the same cover and declared mercilessly!!Sir, We do our work and get away, We do not want anything more than what is due to us;-That late evening when you gave this cover I took it because as per our custom we were supposed to receive in the late evening prayer time; if someone offers something but I have kept it in our pooja room all these days, Never opened it and today I thought I could give you back this one”. Classes are over! Lost touch with even some who attended this programme;-I am still on the lookout for a real Random act of kindness............. Have a nice week end!
