My father Elton Donald Hayes Jr passed away last night after a long struggle with many health issues. He was a Veteran of WWII and Korea. Dad was in the Air Force and was a tail gunner. When flying bombing runs over Italy his plane was shot down and they ditched in the Adriatic. If I remember correctly, the crew spent a couple days in the water until they were rescued. As was typical of these guys of the Greatest Generation they just got back up and flew many, many more runs. I always called my Dad on Memorial and Veterans Days to thank him for his service. I had hoped he would hang on for one last Veterans Day but last time I talked to him he said he was ready to fly away. So Staff Sgt Elton Hayes and to all Veterans Thank you for your service. RIP Pop...I know you ate now in a better place! Thanks to all who prayed for my Dad and my family! I appreciate it.
