My father ahmed ali sherule was the eldest son of my grandfather mohammed sherule. My father was only 17 when he lost both his parents. He discontinued studies to take care of his siblings 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Mental sickness was rampant in the sherule family. Even some of my fathers siblings were not in a proper frame of mind which added to my fathers responsibility of taking care of them. They were all living in a remote village called angadimogar which had zero connectivity with the rest of the world and those days medical facilities were very poor.The communist movement was at its peak in the fifties.Angadimogar was a marxist stronghold because of its high literacy, thanks to mohammed sherule. My father was very close to several marxist leaders including A K GOPALAN and E M S NAMPOOTHRIPPAD. He aligned with the communists to become the first president of puthige panchayath. He continued to be president as an independent canditate with support of marxist party for 21 yrs after which he retired. My father got all his sisters and brothers married of to families of repute known all over kerala. In fact khadeeja the eldest among his sisters was married to dr k m mohammed, the brother of SEETHI SAHEB one of the founders of muslim league in kerala and the first speaker of kerala legistlative assembly. Another sister aysha was married to justice muhyiddeen of padiyath family and another sister zainab to reknowned academecian of those days v p abdulla. My mother is the grand daughter of khan bahadur shamnad who was a member of indian national assembly. She was involved in lot of social activities both in mangalore and kasaragod. She was one of the few muslim woman who was a member of the mahila samajam in mangalore those days. Me and my sister were educated in mangalore and in fact my sister nazeem graduated from st agnes college in 1967. Those days few muslim girls used to go to college. My father saw to it that everybody got educated.
