My favorite writer and the woman who taught me that even the simplest and most ordinary of stories deserve to be told beautifully. I had the distinct honor of introducing her at an event in Philly a few years ago. This woman that was a giant in my mind and heart was just sweet little granny who said baby, hold my pocketbook when she took the podium from me. And I did. I stood right behind her and held tight to it as she spoke. She changed my life from the first story to the last. Her life and her work and her impact on me can be summarized in the title of one of my favorites, Some love, some pain, some time. RIP J. California Cooper. We were lucky to have you as long as we did.
