My fellow empty-headed youth, Please stop reading YG and pretending that it is Confucian wisdom. I think our sense of hopelessness had led us to this end. let me just point out to one false assumption of YGs that you have missed. That one is the idea that Tegadeliti feel a sense of entitlement that is similar to the former colonial masters. This is laughable. The sense of entitlement of the Tegadelti has some merit. While 90k sacrified and stay to fight the gigantic enemy, 100s of thousands fled to the West and came back RICH to Eritrea. Like YG himself, for example. What did a Tegadalay have compared to even the lowliest Diaspora? The Tegadalay had his Habegna certificate that wasnt worth much but even a taxi driver making 20k USD had more regard than the Tegadalay did in the society. The sense of entitlement of the Tegadelti was based in this bitter idea that others enriched themselves while they fought and died for nothing. The clever dictator exploited this feeling to divide tegadalay and gebar. If Eritrea continued on the path of the 90s, this feeling would have worsened among Tegadelti. That is the reality that is Eritrea. Now, for YG to speculate that Tegadelti who were not even born when Italians ruled Eritrea but wished to bring colonial rule or imitate it, this is pure fantasy! Lol. It is a sign of our hopelessness and fecklessness that we listen to YG twist facts that we know. Our own generation immigrates because the only successful Eritreans we have seen are Diaspora Eritreans. We dont want to be Tegadelti or Agelglot. We want to be self-satisfied Diaspora. Except, our conscience wont allow us to forget the state of the country. Now, a real constructive writer or activist would bring the world of the bitter tegadalay and tired Ageglot TOGETHER using this commonality and use it to good effect. Together, both oppressed groups can end the regime. Paradoxically, as much as YG alleges that hopelessness is the result of Eritreanism. His philosophy for Eritreans IS hopelessness. UNLESS, they follow whatever prescription/path he is recommending. In a way, YG reminds me of Isaias Afewerki minus the ability to risk his personal hide. Both individuals create a horrible alternate path if their prescriptions are not followed. Both walked a personal path on a destructive road while others were distracted with national salvation. Why at a time of national challenge did Isaias expend so much energy and effort to gather power? Because that is what he really valued. For YG, why at a time of national crisis does he focus so much time on identity issues? Because it is more important for him to destroy Eritrean identity than to save the Eritrean people. To Isaias, those who stand in the way of his power must be destroyed. To YG, those who stand in his way of destroying Eritrean identity are also disposable. Refugees, unborn children, elders, mothers, tegadelti, Ageglot, and every conceivable variety of Eritrean are disrespected. They are not even accorded the slightest care. Does anyone sense any care or compassion in YG when discussing these vulnerable individuals? None. Does DIA express any compassion for the fleeing youth? They are on a picnic to him. YGs conclusions basically blame the victims for their identity issues that led them to their demise, well deserved is the conclusion you draw. Just like DIA blaming the youth for their problems in his many speeches. The parallels between the two are many except one. Action. Isaias can talk intellectuals, farmers, foreigners, and others into his agenda and has done so for many years. While YG needs you to read his column first.
