My final take on Suntai, Taraba Acting Governor and TSHA - TopicsExpress

My final take on Suntai, Taraba Acting Governor and TSHA Speaker I am yet to come to terms with the reason behind the naked dancinge in Taraba state. I am no fan of Suntai and really do not care if he is booted out of office tomorrow. However, we must not set a dangerous precedent. Those clapping today and hailing the TSHA will be turncoats tomorrow if the same scenario plays out in another state. Must we sacrifice due process for sentiment, opportunism and partisanship? What are the issues: -The TSHA is not a certified medical panel with the expertise to determine the health status of Gov. Suntai. -The Acting Governor cannot be mandated to continue in that capacity without a report from a medical panel. -The TSHA did not provide evidence to show that the letter transmitted by the Governor did not emanate from him. -The scenario playing out in Taraba is quite different from what happened under President UMYA. My worry is that the precedence could lead to: -Governors and their trusted team refusing to proclaim a deputy as acting governor for fear of the Taraba experience. -The members of TSHA milking the state dry through the office of the acting governor because his legitimacy is not guaranteed. The Acting Governor will resort to excessive bribery of the law makers to remain in power. -A reign of anarchy in Taraba state. Solution: either Gov. Suntai is restored with immediate effect or the TSHA must set up a medical panel to determine his capacity to govern. Doing otherwise will lead to looting of the state treasury by the legislators through blackmail of the Acting Governor and possible breakdown of law and order.
