My first country to discover in the former Yugoslavia was Slovenia - TopicsExpress

My first country to discover in the former Yugoslavia was Slovenia in 2010, met a mountain climber named Marta on a train to Kraków who suggested I go there vs. Slovakia because of the Julian Alps. Favorite places: the meadow of blue wild flowers near the place the songbirds congregate in Tivoli Park, the Pilates/Gyrotonic studio in Ljubljana, the buildings and stairs on the river in Ljubljana by architect Plecnik (1872-1957), the hanging shoes art sculpture by one of the bridges in Ljubljana, Lake Bohinj, the very retro train stations that if you look closely have some Art Deco and maybe a few ghosts, the trail around Lake Bled and the approach to Titos summer home from the lake, the alpine town of Kobarid that has a top notch WWI museum (formerly known as Caporetto,) and the town square with university and Philharmonic orchestra buildings. Slovenia is spectacular with Austria directly to the north. OMG, the pastries. It was on my first trip to Slovenia that I started wondering why was Yugoslavia communism different from the other Soviet Bloc countries and then I discovered Bosnia.
