My first iBook is up and running! I have been working in - TopicsExpress

My first iBook is up and running! I have been working in collaboration with old Jakarta friends to publish a manuscript I had lying around, and it has evolved into something quite exciting. Michael Hughes, who arrived as a teacher in Jakarta the same year I did, is my partner, and he has been responsible for making this all happen, handling the technology and coming up with the creative idea to have my book signed in ASL (American Sign Language) so that it will be accessible to the deaf community around the world. His wife, Bindu Bammi, a former JIS colleague, has done the illustrations, and Ben Polly signed the entire book. As far as we know, this is a ground-breaking enterprise. There have been picture books signed in ASL and other sign languages, but never a chapter book of 100 pages. The audience I originally wrote the book for is 3-5th grade readers. The book is in text form, with a video insert of Ben signing each chapter. It can be enjoyed by hearing readers as well. The book is called Adventures on the Argo and it is the first in a series I am calling Myths through the Maze. I will receive 50 tickets to send to people, and I will be looking for those who will help to promote the book within the deaf community, and librarians who are into iBooks, educators and anyone who is connected with my audience- both hearing and deaf children in this age group. I welcome any suggestions from you! I was asked why a deaf person would need a book signed, since they can read. I wasnt sure, so I asked. I learned that rather than having to read the book in English, often a second language with different grammar for deaf people, a signed book in their native ASL is a better option for a more enjoyable reading experience. Heres the link to view Adventures on the Argo on iBooks...have a look! :) https://itunes.apple/us/book/adventures-on-the-argo/id879946611?mt=11
