My gramma is amazing. A woman of truth and love. Please everyone share this. Spread her voice. Not too many are speaking of compassion or justice for these women and children please help spread this word thank you Murrieta, CA – Defying Decency Since World War II the US government has overthrown the governments of the following sovereign Central and South American nations: Guatemala 1954; Costa Rica mid-1950s and again in 1970-71; Ecuador 1960-63 and again in 2000; Brazil 1962-64; Dominican Republic 1963; Bolivia 1964 and again in 1971; Chile 1964-73; Jamaica 1976-80; Nicaragua 1981-90; Panama 1989; Venezuela 2002; Haiti 2004; and attempted to overthrow the government of Cuba continuously since 1959. (see “Overthrowing Other People’s Governments: The Master List” by William Blum). Customarily governments of other nations are overthrown by CIA operatives working with the corrupt School of the Americas (SOA) trained puppets who are all too willing to sell off the resources of those nations to US corporate interests. These corporations violate environmental and labor laws with impunity poisoning farmland or outright stealing it; poisoning waterways, and at times destroying entire villages. While Europe engaged in colonization of real estate and people, US foreign policy engages in economic colonization resulting in violence, corruption, disease, destruction of social norms and family units, as well as political disenfranchisement. In Honduras, for example, President Juan Orlando Hernandez has used repression, human rights violations and increased militarization in turning over the rich natural resources of Honduras to private corporations. (see “SOA Watch, Delegation to Honduras, August 11-20, 2014”). Currently refugees, especially unaccompanied minors, have been entering the US seeking asylum; they possess refugee status until a court determines otherwise. This is a fact not only of US law, but of international law. Central and South American refugees are the direct result of corporate cartels, misguided, and corrupt US foreign policy, and local corruption, all of which are hand-in-hand partners in the system of economic colonization and exploitation. As a local resident, I remain horrified at the conduct of our neighbors who have taken it upon themselves to so disturb a bus full of refugee women and children as to make it unsafe for the driver to release the occupants to Border Patrol Agents for processing, as is their legal right and customary procedure. Protesting to government is in no way akin to threatening women and children, lawlessly denying due process to those least able to defend themselves. I consider the actions at the Murrieta Border Patrol Station to be lawless, shameful and a disgrace to our community and to our state. Currently the population of the US is 317 million people; the population of the world is 7.1 billion. Yet, Americans consume two-thirds of the entire world’s resources and are, thus, not entitled to throw away the children of other nations. There is but one planet; we must share; we must dig deep recalling all those righteous statements we make about family, ethics, morals, character and conduct ourselves in a civilized, compassionate and lawful manner providing sanctuary as appropriate, and reigning in the corporate cartels that have not only taken over the rights, opportunities and stability of people in other nations, but are increasingly taking from us the right that we claim to cherish. If America’s heart has become so dry as to subject children who have nothing but the clothes on their backs to mob mentality, screaming men and women, mothers of other children threatening them and telling them they are not welcome, think hard and long about what you are teaching your own children by your actions. Your children cannot help but watch your conduct and fear your true character and nature. Paula Athas-Heady Lake Elsinore, CA
