My grandsons math teacher explained common core to their mother as: we want to teach them to look outside the box for alternate ways to get the answer..it will teach them to think about the answer...just think 6X8=48 is not correct..it has to be 5+1x8 = 48.. If common core is so good for the kids why did they just start showing them..I mean you would think a progressive teacher might throw in a problem or two like this instead of waiting to be told you MUST teach this way or we (the school) loses all our federal funding ...it is not about teaching and learning..it is all about MONEY.
