My great grandfathers family came to Brazil from Ottoman Syria - TopicsExpress

My great grandfathers family came to Brazil from Ottoman Syria around a hundred years ago, and their homeland had been under Ottoman rule for some extra 400 years. For comparisons sake, someone born on the day Christopher Columbus set foot in America wouldve been just 24 when the Ottoman Empire spread to todays Syria. Thats the Syria they knew, and how long it lasted. But after World War One, it all changed, and it made the region about as stable as a coke bottle about to receive diabetes-inducing doses of Mentos. Since WWI, theres been a short-lived Kingdom of Syria, a French Mandate for Syria and Lebanon, a first Syrian republic, a disastrous United Arab Republic, and the contemporary Syrian Arab Republic. Ive had showers that lasted longer than some of these institutions, and as a result of the Arab Spring, which demanded free elections, regime change, and employment, a civil war broke out. (Oh, and did I mention theres also a Syrian Kurdistan?) If you find all this overwhelming, heres a quick introduction: youtu.be/K5H5w3_QTG0 And now, VICE News clearly deranged and suicidal reporters went on and decided to show ISIS from the inside. What drives them to such extreme behaviour even Al Qaidah reckons is excessive? How and why do they recruit members? Heres a 50 minute long documentary about ISIS:
