My green story happens and continue daily. However, my first trip to Costa Rica provided the connection to land, politics, social justice and care taking for self and planet. About five years, ago while visiting Costa Rica and various parts of Belize I could not fully understand why there was extreme poverty, while having fertile ground for growing fresh fruits and veggies? I became aware of the fact the reality of my standards of living perhaps were not in-tuned with what I was actually seeing. I became conscious to how I was experiencing life. How dare I to have a judgement about how others lived. From that day forward. I made a shift in how I would life my life. Since this trip, in my home recycles 80% of everything! Some goes into our weekly recycle bins, However, a large portion of paper products (toilet paper rolls, newspaper, boxes and etc.) is directed to MERELYME.CO. for up=cycling or re-purposing. We eat everything fresh, from our cooperative. We are making the transition to locally sourced fruits and vegetables. Why? We do not see local foods within our food cooperative. No offense to countries outside of my local area. However, supporting CSA farms are imperative. c For our left over food scraps-separated into two categories. One, bags donated to Red Hook Community Farm in Brooklyn. Compost for the farm. Second, bags destined for trash. This will include any bones, anything that may begin to rot or smell is frozen. Taken to the trash can every other day. You will hear my husband in the background giving me instructions on how to better prepare my script. Hes a filmmaker and writer who values writing. I on the other hand learns by a hands on method.
