My honor, respect and gratitude with my concordances to his family, I honor Capt. Hugh Pat Tomlinson. A warrior, man among men, scholar, friend, counselor and confidant. May all your postings / billets be pleasant and your days long with great fishing. Call me if you run out of bait and Ill bring the dyno-mite :) Most everyone of my teammates KNEW Capt. Hugh Pat Tomlinson in the ROTC Dept. UofA. Heres Capt. Pat now with the long gray line who marched into the fog & mist, beyond reach except in our hearts, mind and photos. Memories of the man and his gifts to use, the way he lived, knowledge shared, pain & advice/help in tuff times and laughs enjoyed, now only in photos: (1) the crew of HAWGS at Capt.s cook out for his guys c.1964-5; (2) formal portrait; (3) The Capt. serving Oct.43--Aug.44 with Merrills Marauders in Burma(?). Those of you who knew him, recall his left hand so mangled that only the little finger and thumb remained which could inflict the utmost pain. My coodoo from THE CAPT. was a mounted bass on his wall he named Mutt. Although much smaller than his “trophy” catches, His reason: the fightingest SOB ever caught.. TAPS (just humm the tune with the words as you read) : Day is done. Gone the sun. From the lakes, From the hills, From the sky All is well, safely rest. God is nigh. Fading light Dims the sight And a star Gems the sky, Gleaning bright From afar, Drawing nigh, Falls the night. Thanks and praise, For our days, Neath the sun, Neath the stars, Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh.
