My introduction to Sambo came in summer 2004. I had moved away - TopicsExpress

My introduction to Sambo came in summer 2004. I had moved away from my kenpo practice to get married and continue college (400 miles away!) and shadow boxing and weight lifting just wasnt enough. I met a military guy in my exercise phys. class who was a very skilled and experienced martial artist with years of wrestling and boxing under his belt, cross training in FMA and muay thai, and then I learned that he spent time in Russia and got to learn Sambo first hand. We were training a more comprehensive MMA type course with him, so it wasnt art specific, but he talked about his sources and where certain favored techniques came from. Unfortunately, about 4 months in, I broke a rib and had to take time off of training to heal, and by the time I was able to come back, his schedule had changed because he was working on graduation projects, and working to get an internship, and I was back to shadow boxing for a while until I could find another training partner. But ever since those days I have been impressed with and interested in Sambo (and catch-as-catch-can wrestling, which was another of his favored methods). What styles have you been introduced to that you would like to learn more about and spend some time in dedicated practice?
