My kids and I had the privilege of attending my uncle Bills funeral yesterday. He was a Korean War Veteran who returned home to his wife and earned two Masters degrees, a PhD, and spent the rest of his life serving others as a teacher, counselor, chaplain, and pastor. He and my aunt Freda were married for 62 years. He taught me how to ride a horse, the importance of getting back on the horse when youre thrown off, and he instilled in me a deeper respect and appreciation for our Veterans and Military than I can put into words. Im thankful my kids were able to know him. It was so poignant seeing both my kids tears yesterday as we celebrated Uncle Bills life, and Im thrilled theyre learning early in their lives about the gratitude owed to those who sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
