My little brother Diego DeSantiago was the youngest of our family, - TopicsExpress

My little brother Diego DeSantiago was the youngest of our family, the light, joy and with the warmest biggest heart! Diego was everyones favorite. He made everyone smile, there was never a dull moment with my brother. He was born FEB 3 1976 in East Los Angeles, CA in Boyle Heights, a poor barrio in L.A. he was born at 3 lbs and Drs told my parents he would not make it more than a week. Growing up in East L.A. we grew up selling news papers and shining shoes, picking up aluminum cans to help our parents. My brother Diego was a gang member, baseball player and boxer- trying to find himself. Even under these circumstances Diego was the light in my fathers and mothers eyes always with a big smile and heart! Our parents moved us to Oswego NY with our sister Maria Isabel Vasquez to avoid loosing any of us to gang violence, Diego was a Jr in high school and instantly made many friends in particular became very close with (Heather) the sweet family. Diego continue to play baseball for the High School team as a pitcher, and continued boxing. After graduating high school he joined the US Army as a tanker, he also boxed in the Army and in one of his fights fought with a broken arm and still won the fight. After three yrs in the Army he traveled and finally we decided to make Colorado our home, we moved our parents to Colorado and he took care of both our parents. I always saw that so honorable of him been the youngest in our family taking the lead on looking after them. My father is 90 yrs old and my mother in her 80s. They always could not wait for Diego to be home- he was the baby on their eyes. Diego finished his Bachelors degree in Political Science and was working on his masters degree. He wanted to impact he political process from within with Gods view. He told thats the only way to change things. My little brother never hesitated to help anyone out, from family members to church members and never expected anything in return. Diego once gave away to a church his mustang convertible. Diego saw money and material things to be unimportant. Diego was also the glue of our family he always made time to visit our family in Puerto Rico, New York, Los Angeles and Mexico. Although he did not have a wife nor children all of our kids loved them, he had a hug and a word of encouragement to all of them, uncle Diego was loved by our kids. His last 4-5 yrs he spent devoting all of his time to God, following our lord and savior Jesus Christ, he found inspiration from Dr. Munroe, he was constantly going around the world traveling spreading Gods message and helping everyone in between. He loved the Bahamas and the people here. He truly picked up his cross and followed our Lord. Coming to identify my little Diegos body has been the toughest thing I have done, my little brother and those on board did not deserve to die the way they did, my comfort is knowing he died with the people he loved, doing what he loved and doing Gods work. To our family his lost has taken a big chunk from our hear left behind big hole in it. We (family) parents, brothers and sisters are so devastated we wont see his big smile or laugh he had for these holidays nor in our life here on earth. Diegos death wont be in-vain, we will carry on with his legacy on spreading Gods word and winning souls for our Lord Jesus Chris. Rest in peace little brother, I will now take care of our parents. You were always be my favorite ;((. Love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J. DeSantiago
