My mom went to be with the Lord nearly two years ago, so it was strange this morning when I suddenly heard her voice, not just once, but twice. The first time, I was pushing my cart across the supermarket parking lot and my attention was drawn to an older man getting into his car. He was dressed unremarkably except for a bright purple stocking cap on his head. The cap wasnt even a solid bright purple - no, it was printed with a loud design, topped with a big pompom, and further adorned with a pair of large ear flaps. Out of nowhere, I imagined my mom walking beside me, observing the old man too. I could see her shaking her head and I could hear her say in her Okie accent, Well, God love him. Once I arrived home, and parked my car in the driveway, I was considering leaving the windows cracked to air out the car. But then, I noticed the dark storm clouds gathering in the sky and decided against it after I heard my mom speak again, using one of her many colorful Southern expressions: Looks like its fixin to come a gullywasher! I wonder if those two incidents were just tricks my tired mind and heart were playing on me after an exhausting night at work, or if God occasionally forwards little heavenly emails to us from our loved ones who are now with Him. I miss you, Mom.
