My mother was born in Izmir, Turkey, as her cousin who immigrated - TopicsExpress

My mother was born in Izmir, Turkey, as her cousin who immigrated to Milan, Italy after her marriage. Both Claire and husband Moshe had 2 children: Carmen and Yossef, On the summer of 1940 Carmen was 6 years old right before her 1st grade, and her brother was 3 years old. Carmen went with her friends parents/neighbors to the movies and had ice cream- an act kids do during summer. On that evening the Gestapo arrested her mother and her young brother, later after work, her father was arrested. All never returned. The neighbors (Christians) held Carmen for that night entering to her home taking jewelry, pictures documentation so that the Germans would not discover the girl and extended family, put all in a hidden sack, hid the girl and raised her as their own daughter!!! She graduated university in Italy and afterwards came by herself to live in Israel.(She had with her the family sack!) There married and raised a tribe. We were all condemned to death, including Sephardic families. That was the plan. In the picture -Carmens parents on their wedding in Izmir.
