My mothers father, Stewart Swacker, passed away at 97. He was my last living grandparent. America does not make people like the World War II generation anymore. We were eating lunch in Dallas a few years ago and were talking about his years in the Navy. He nonchalantly mentioned that he was just a young lieutenant in the radio room of the U.S.S. California and had to jump into the sea to avoid burning to death in the attack on Pearl Harbor. What? He was so humble and low key... but a hero nonetheless. He retired a Captain and was the head of ships and acquisitions at the Pentagon and also helped design and install all the secret communications systems for the Washington doomsday bunkers. I love him very much. I pray his soul to our Lord! Farewell, grandpa.
