My name is Maggie McGurk. I am the mother of Paul Muskeni. Paul was diagnosed with schizophrenia 24 years ago and he has been under the LACK of care from Turning point for more than 10 of these years. His care, under this organization, has progressively gone from bad to worse. Over this time period, I have interjected my concerns. In my opinion, Paul was within days or weeks from death. His weight dropped over the past several years from 163 to 110 pounds. Paul is not eating properly or getting the much needed attention to his mental and medical needs that Turning Point is supposed to afford him. It is supposed to be 24 hours, 7 days a week care. Attached is a letter from Brian DeAmicis stating that I complained to the Department of Mental Health Ombudsman about my son Paul losing 20 pounds. The evidence is there. Now he has loosed 53 pounds. Why did the ombudsman or Carolin Funderburg do anything? The watchful eyes of the Director of the County Sacramento Department of Mental Health Treatment Center, Sherri Heller is not looking into this neglect. Where am I to go to save my son’s life if they will not do their job? Paul hears voices. He disturbs other hotel guests where he stays. The Turning Point Psychiatrist does not know about these voices. He lives in a room without proper sanitation, no cooking facilities, and no refrigeration. His yelling has adversely affected his vocal cords. I have been led to believe there are medicines that will help control this. Pauls recent actions have also convinced me that he is a danger to himself and others. While attempting to take Paul to a medical facility, Sutter Center for Psychiatry, Paul jumped from my moving car into traffic. Fortunately there was no impact and no one was injured. I called the Sacramento Police Department. They responsibly transported him to Sutter Center of Psychiatry, where my Son finally received lifesaving care and nutrition. Paul has now been released by Sutter and is in the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center. I fear that he will again be released to Turning Point and this treatment, or lack thereof, will begin again. Im very afraid that my Son will die. My Son is a danger to himself. In order to save Pauls life, he needs to be conserved. As his mother, I know that I will do the best job to protect him. I would like meet with the team at SMHTC about starting conservatorship. If my Paul is released to Turning Point again, he will die from the lack of care. At this point, I do not know where my son is. Panyala Ananth of SCMHTC will not tell me where my son is. He needs food in order to LIVE! Thank you for whatever you can do to help me, in helping my Son.
