My nephew (late cousins son) is a brilliant scholar. In fact he is mathematically gifted and after he completed his A Levels and scored very highly, he got a scholarship to do arcturial science in SA. He completed his degree with distinctions and afterwards came back to Zimbabwe, eager to work hard, apply his knowledge and serve the people of this country. Fast forward, after almost a year job hunting with all the insurance companies he started teaching maths at a Rural scool in Goromonzi. He is here for the day and is telling me that he teaches 7 classes a day. Each class has 45 students. Every night he marks close to 300 books. He shares a small room with another teacher and they have to sort out their own meals. The teachers get paid about $400/month. The pupils pay $36/term. Reality has struck and he is now looking for opportunities in other countries.
