My previous post about Islam could be just as easily said about capitalism. Were going to spend all kinds of time talking about people who are *perverting capitalism* by using money to purchase political power. But thats assuming that capitalism is something which can be redeemed. Its central tenet of externalizing costs and internalizing profits cant be. It is a failed system, because after a while, there is nowhere else to externalize the costs except on to the natural environment-- which inevitably degrades and becomes unsustainable. Capitalism cannot operate without disposable people. It cannot support equality because that would ruin negotiations with the labor pool. It cannot function without information control because people will eventually find out they are being kept in a state of virtual slavery. So capitalism must keep people from being educated enough to consider big questions, or from understanding the true power structure. It must keep the poor of every race blaming the poor of every other race--instead of the rich masters. Finally, capitalism must operate in a state of endless war, which is one of its most profitable products. In order to do so, it must perpetuate the lie that more people benefit from war than are damaged by it. That lie depends on dehumanization of people in faraway places. Which--even in a world of instant communication--has become the most reliable result of capitalism. We have more than enough resources and wealth for every human being to thrive many times over. The fact that were not is a daily indictment of a system so broken it cannot be fixed. It must be replaced with sustainable resource based social democracy. On this all depends.
