My rant to the world about our upcoming referendum for the Racine - TopicsExpress

My rant to the world about our upcoming referendum for the Racine Public schools: We want these kids to grow up, have careers and get off public assistance, right? You have to spend money to save money people. Stop torturing todays kids for the sins of past RUSD administrations! Lets stop pointing the blame finger, come together as a community and make it better! The newest schools are 40 to 50 years old. Most are closer to or past 100 years, some are 150. Its clear the school district and city has been operating under the delusion minimal maintenance or infrastructure repair is necessary. This is evident based on the condition of Case alone, the newest high school. Im getting really sick of everyone commenting that if the district would have spent better on this, this and that....well then we wouldnt need a referendum. If you want to control where it goes, start attending all board meetings and city council meetings, write to your elected officials. Meanwhile, as we fight, major businesses have moved out, and we cant attract new ones because frankly, who would want to come live here and encourage all their employees to do so if the schools suck? We are painting a picture for the economic future of Racine with this vote. So, are we are going to continue to punish the kids of this district? Are we going to continue to be two faced and say We expect these graduates to be college and career focused while expecting them to attend shabby schools? All because we are mad at some mistakes by past administrations for DECADES? This problem started before many of us were born, and Im turning 40, so Im not new on the block! Anyone successful in business knows if you want to feel good, you step up and look good. You feel how you dress, and you dress how you feel. Lets make our schools look and feel like the successes we are expecting out of our graduating youth each year. If you dont want kids to act ghetto and inner city, get pregnant too young and raise their kids on public assitance, like many of them were raised, then you cant expect things to stay the way they are. If you want them to act inner city and ghetto, then keep sending them to inner city and ghetto schools. They will know how much we care about them and their futures. This isnt about the teachers or their pay or even the Governor, this is about 33 school buildings that need to be fixed and whether the citizens can stop arguing long enough to say Yes, the work needs to be done and well allow it. Please, just do the right thing and stop arguing. We have the power as a community to press the school district to use the funds appropriately, but we need to acquire them first. Our kids are worth it...every child is worth it. Racine is worth it, if we allow it to be.
