My reply to a reader of my article PM Lee is a Total Failure posted on TRE: Trademarks: First of all, WE SINGAPOREANS DID NOT ASK for MORE POPULATION.Precisely so, this is PAP’s own doing which makes it land scarce Singapore more unbearable. If we just provide HDB flats for each Singaporean household unit, there will not be land scarce. Your argument is totally flawed. No matter how land scarce we are in Singapore, all Singaporeans will have to have a roof over their heads, unless you believe otherwise. Since HDB flats are only for Singaporean household and each Singaporean can only own one HDB flat, there is absolutely no risk of “over-consumption”. That’s the purpose of Public Housing. It is only when you open up the HDB flats to PRs, then you will have a problem a REAL problem of over-consumption because foreigners can come and go. They come to capitalize on the economy, jobs and HDB flats “asset enhancement” and they can go when things aren’t right, thus, causing excess supply or demand at any one time. As for hospital care, please lah! For goodness sake! Aren’t you not ashame of claiming Singapore’s healthcare is “First World standards” when our people are stuffed along corridors and tents like the Third World countries? As for CPF, I have already put it clearly. It is absolutely a joke for a country which forced its people to save 36% of their salaries but in the end, ended up with inadequate CPF for retirement financing! No country in the world face that kind of problems! The problems lie with PATHETIC LOW return given by PAP government to CPF and the HIGH PRICES of HDB flats and healthcare cost! Goh Meng Seng
