My response to a couple of pretty racist Israelis trolls called Boris and Alison on Naomi Wolfs page, I thought Id post it here to share with you sane people: I think what we see amongst many of the people of Israel is a collective state of denial. Is it really too much for people to think about their own countrys part in why those rockets are being fired? And the longer it goes on the more the wall is built. The more misunderstanding and less hope for people. And whilst I wouldnt stoop to comparing Israelis to Nazis as I think that is utterly offensive, i would ask of a people who have been persecuted, that they try to stop seeing themselves as the victims when 6 million Palestinians live in diaspora, many in refugee camps in awful conditions where their children are denied the basics prerequisites of life. Boris has stated that he just wants to get in his car and got to Walmart without having to stop and hide because of rockets. Okay theres some perspective. The Palestinian refugees perspective is this: we just want to be able to give our children a quality of life and an education, a home to live in. The Palestinians perspective in WB is, we just want to know that out children can get to school without being tear gassed or arrested, a farmer can farm his land without being attacked or obstructed or dispossessed. The Palestinians perspective in Gaza is, we want to be able to trade and travel freely, we want a quality of life, we want justice. You cannot deny who has the bigger complaint, nor that your country is the root cause of their problems. Problems which need ongoing remediation for the peace and prosperity of all people in the region. This is not a situation where taking a side and grabbing some pom poms and cheerleading go Israel!, like Alison, helps. It is a situation that requires considered and sensible debate, and empathy and compassion, where judgements and negative pre-conceptions need to be left at the door.
