My response to the nasty letter. Opinions please before I hit send... Dear Ms. Wood, I received a letter from you lawyer yesterday. I was disappointing that you did not try to contact me first. I did do an internet search, a trademark search and a state registry search. I had no intention of "trademark and trade infringement". If you had simply called me first I would have apologized and happily remedied the situation to your satisfaction. What I do and what you is different. I agree that our names need to be more different. I focus on feline behavior modification and care for cats only. You seem to have a wonderful knack with all sorts of creatures that I would never dream of caring for. Both are important and admirable. There are not enough animal care providers in the city and I try to foster a strong community among us. I assume we are alike in our deep love of animals and want to see every being receive the best possible care. I am not sure if you are aware of exactly how hostile the letter your lawyer sent was. There was really no need for that. I will assume that you did not intend to be that hostile and give you the benefit of the doubt. I would rather make friends, build community and share knowledge for the benefit of all animals. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. As for claiming a trademark on the maneki neko, I purchased the vector file along with the right to use it as a logo from VectorStock. Zazzle also sells business cards, t-shirts,etc.Many many businesses around the world use the maneki-neko as a logo. I will not use the maneki-neko as a logo. It is not in my best interest either for our businesses to be confused. Just to be clear I will change my business name, change my website, change my logo, and all other promotional materials. Obviously this will take time since I have to refile with the state, change the name on my accounts, etc. Although we may have gotten off on the wrong foot I hope we can be more positive in the future. As a gesture of good will I have included pictures of my own cats. I wish you nothing but the best and hope you continue serving animals of all kinds. Sincerely, Adrianna Culver (206) 679-3681
