My solution to Bouyon problems. My name is Alixson Cognette jr. A.K.A Tommy A.K.A Tommy tomtom A.K.A Akaimaster… I am one of the many unfortunate producers in Dominica and have been to many events held here on the island and also witnessed our fellow artists and band’s performances both home and abroad. Unlike many who come to the events to jump up to anything that they hear I found myself always drifting, figuring out our problems and our solutions. I have come to realize that we have many problems keeping our very own genres of music a float and our solutions are simple yet it seems difficult simply because of our ways of thinking. We are a people that just hate authority. Everyone wants to captain the ship and believe if Dada or Craig Bellot is the leader Dada or Craig will steal the money and all sorts of things. We are simply afraid of taking risks and wait to see someone start something to see their progress then try competing with them to be called the original. WE believe we are on top the world and too high to take advice. Currently our entertainers are confused and are being misled: 1. We have no role models (no one to look up to), (we believe our illusions.) 2. The ones that are in the best position to lead ignore or are not aware of their power and take the position for “kix”. 3. The followers make us feel like any and everything is accepted and gives false feedback to our entertainers. 4. Entertainers don’t do research. 5.Entertainers pay more attention to the spot light than the task at hand. 6.Entertainers look down on other entertainers they feel they have an edge on. 7Entertainers blame everyone but themselves for problems. 8.Entertainers take constructive criticism as negative criticism. 9.Entertainers take negative criticism completely negative. 10.Entertainers don’t know the power of the mic. This list can go on and further upset the low minded ones but I will like to share some of my self-thought solutions: 1.Entertainers need to make it clear as to why they are entertainers either is for fun, fame, business or fun/business. 2.Entertainers need to attract the ones who never followed, the ones who used to follow and keep the ones who are following their products. 3.Entertainers need to recognize criticism as tools to build better products. 4.Entertainers need to plan before they execute. 5.Enteretainers need to look at their music and entertainment as a job. 6.The general public “GP” must understand their power towards the entertainers, (GP can demand entertainers to work harder to entertain them and build better products). 7.GP needs to be honest, none bias and open minded. 8.Entertainers need to be open-minded. A group is always more powerful than a single person especially if you want to demand respect, secure funding / incentives, etc. … This is why I have been giving an association this much thought. We need to form an association: 1.To deal with the copyright and other laws dealing with music. 2.Provide resources and guidance to enhance lyrics and composition of product. 3.To host shows and other fun events. 4.Hold award shows annually so entertainers can look at as a goal to achieve. 5.Have training for promoters, managers, booking agents, etc.… 6.Have a voice in the Cabinet. 7.To support/ promote our own. Association is just the body/ bodies that are organizing the industry to become an industry (DadaMusic Lawrence’s words).
