My son and his family had a very LARGE dog who was as sweet, kind - TopicsExpress

My son and his family had a very LARGE dog who was as sweet, kind and gentle as can be. He also had a couple neighbor kids who would torment the dog through the wooden fence in the back yard. Climbing the fence and throwing rocks and dirt at the dog. The dog got out through the front door one day and bit one of the neighbor kids who taunted him.The cops and animal control were called. They took the dog (my grand dog) to be held for evaluation to see if he was re-homable. After a week, my son and his family were informed they could bring the dog home as he posed no danger to anyone. They realized the dog needed more room to run and would be better suited for a country home, so they decided to turn him over to the humane society, which cost them more than if they would have brought him home. They thought they were doing what was best for the dog. We found out today that the dog has been euthanized. A friend of my sons family really wanted the dog as she has always had her kids around him and knew what a great dog he was, so she called everyone involved in his case. She was informed of the situation by the police officer who took the dog in. Even he was outraged that this dog was euthanized. There was NO solid reason this dog could not have been re-homed except for laziness on the part of animal control! We have a NO KILL SHELTER for a reason! I have no doubt that had he been turned over to the shelter, he would have found a wonderful home in the country where he could run off his energy!
