My son is 11 years old and has type 1 diabetes. He has a 2year old diabetic alert dog named Einstein. Because River does not feel the blood sugar changes in his body we trained Einstein (his dog) to smell the low and high blood sugars and to alert River so he could care for himself better. Tonight while laying in bed reading Rivers sugar began to drop rapidly. So after Einstein alerted River to the drop in blood Sugar River asked him to go get him his blood sugar meter in order to check. This video is of his diabetic alert dog Einstein coming out from the back of the house to get the medical equipment his boy needed to be safe. As a mother who has watched her baby struggle for years with this disease it makes my heart swell to see his amazing four legged life saver helping him live a safer more normal life.
