My son wrote another sports blog. ORANGE CRUSH by Alex Beeson Anybody over the last several years knows that old cliché in order to compete in the NBA, you need a superstar. So who is the superstar on the Phoenix Suns? thats right...Mark West, the assistant coach. He was a star at one time and is again. In my short life of watching the NBA, I was fortunate to watch both live and on TV the Mike DAntoni years with his high-octane-absolutely-no-defense-offense. That got me to really become a die-hard Suns fan. I may not like basketball as much as I love baseball and hockey, but I do have a place in my heart for the Suns. With that in mind, I did not think after the 2012-13 season that the Phoenix Suns would be relevant for a few years. All of a sudden, we fired Lindsey Hunter (angelic choir), dumped Michael Beasley on his...(angelic choir), fired Lance Blanks (should have also been Lon Babby too, oh well anyway...angelic choir), hired GM Ryan McDonough, formerly of the Celtics (eeeeh), hired Jeff Hornacek (I originally wanted Dan Majerle, but I love the hire anyway), implanted a better defense than years past, and finally traded for in no particular order, Eric Bledsoe, Ish Smith, Miles Plumlee and Gerald Green. After all this, I thought...Who the $%&@ are these people? Now this season is nothing short of out of the blue. I liked how Arizona Sports analysts Dave Burns and John Gambadoro explained the season as ...mixing up a bunch of kitchen leftovers together to make a meal that happens to taste good. No self respecting sports analyst should have picked the Suns to compete at the start of this season. I can guarantee you no one did. Most Suns fans thought this was a throw away year, I certainly did. However, as we sit here approaching the second half, I got some advice for the Suns. DO NOT TRADE ANY PLAYERS UNTIL AFTER THIS YEAR. We may only be in the sixth seed in the West, but I have never seen a team this close knit and so hungry to win as much as this group right now. Some people might say that getting someone like Pau Gasol, Kris Humphries, Josh Smith, or anyone with an expiring contract would benefit the Suns this year. Please dont do it! I fear that any kind of roster move will derail this good thing going. Lon Babby, get this into your skull, THESE GUYS BEAT THE BEST TEAM IN THE NBA TWICE!!!! Just saying. (Boy, I really dont like Babby). PS: If I could vote for the NBA coach of the year, I would give it to Jeff Hornacek. No coach this year got so much of so very little and forgotten players.
