My take on Selfies: Yesterday I read a post from someone I really admire and respect. He posted a not so flattering definition of what a selfie is. Side note...As I type this its driving me nuts that Selfie is underlined in red. I digress. I am waaaaay over 40. I am a late bloomer. Several friends can attest to this. The most famous line from one of my closest friends when we went dancing for the the first time together, Trace, this is the first time Ive seen your legs and Ive known you for 13 years! I grew up in a loving family. But they were the kind that didnt like someone being too pretty. Some of you may relate to phrases like, Dont tell her shes pretty, she might get a big head. Going to Fountain Valley High School and growing up in Huntington Beach during the era of Dorothy Hamil and Farrah Fawcett didnt help either. No matter how hard I tried, the Chemin De Fer Jeans just never quite worked for me. Fast forward to now. After a 22 year marriage, I feel free. Open. Unapologetic for some things. Beautiful. Me. Finally. Of course, I still have my lumpy thigh days, a bit of bloating now and then, but heck. I. Dont. Care. For the first time in my life, I feel comfy with me and it shows. So, yes its vain, and self indulgent and fun. It is about me. Its not for the likes or comments (which I appreciate either way). I am complex, silly, intense, moody, slightly funny, a little bit clumsy, toast challenged and nerdy. Selfies are just one little sliver of me expressing myself to you. Just a sliver. Ahhhhh. That feels better.
