My thought of the day: We know that everything on earth serves a purpose in one way or another. Have you ever wondered what role crude oil plays? Surely by extracting it, we are blindly altering something that cannot simply be replaced. It must be beneficial to the planet in some way, otherwise, why would it exist? Even if its purpose is simply to lubricate the tectonic plates, removing it would be like running a vehicles engine without oil. The pistons will seize up. What if that is the reason for the recent boom in intense earth quakes? What if oil helps to regulate the earths temperature? Or if it is the Earths carbon reserves that it releases after major natural disasters to help refuel the earths surface (a kick start to the carbon cycle)? There are so many questions, and I cant seem to find any concrete answers. I did read that scientists extracted oil samples from various locations around the world and discovered bacteria that had been living under extreme anaerobic (no oxygen present) conditions. There HAS to be a purpose! - and by that, Im not referring to powering man-made equipment.
