My very first job out the army was at clicks stores ,in Strand Street opposite the old grand hotel,where the Cape Sun is today,that was in about 1969.the man who started pick n pay and then sold it to Raymond Ackerman ,the late jack Goldin ,he taught me a lot and ill always be Grateful. He once said to me young man rather crawl than run.i had just come out the army. Many a time I have run come short and thought bout those words. I had been a trainee manager and every morning this pretty blonde who I knew from the Muizenburg snake pitot used to come in buy chat to me.alot of the management even the general manager ,there were only two stores at the time knew and liked her. One morning one of the staff came to me and said he had seen this girl put some thing in her bag and walk out. It was an elnett hairspray tin marked 5.99 which was expensive in those days,I spoke to her as normal she then said she had to go to work and was looking forward to seeing me the next day. After she walked out the front door I approached her and told her what my staff member had seen. She denied it said she had purchased it some where else I asked to see it saw a clicks label. I took her to the office phoned the general manager who was shocked it was her,he came to the shop not knowing what to do ,phoned jack Goldin who said the following,no exception. The police took her away,I had to testify against her in court. She got a years jail six months suspended. I had misjudged and trusted her.that was during the apartheid era. One year later she was front page of the Sunday Times arrested for theft and also the immorality act. Now I misjudged and trusted Cheryl Krebser who turned out to be dishonest ,a thief ,never to be given her daughter back that she swore nobody would stand in her way. my question is if in 1969 ,just for a tin of hairspray my girlfriend got a year,now Im testifying in court again ,what will the thief Cheryl Krebser get for all she stole from me and the lies not only to me but to family and friends. See you in court Cheryl Krebser,never imagined things would turn out this way,but you have got to be taught a lesson once and for all and this time no escApe you will serve your term in jail.
