My visit to the doctor went as follows: I called Friday to see if I could get the last appointment of the day, couldnt but they scheduled me for today at 2:40. Fast forward to today, I get a call a little after 1 pm asking if I can come in earlier, around 2 would be perfect they say-- my doctor has a pretty slow afternoon they say. I show up, walk down to Family Practice and think its odd when I see the double doors shut but push that aside and open them to walk in where Im immediately bum-rushed by 3 nurses who walk me away from the first set of waiting chairs (which are full of people) and walk me down to the very far end of the open bay (where there is NO one seated) and proceed to tell me that I am not permitted to leave the clinic, to even leave this particular section of the waiting bay -- that they are in the middle of a drill. The nurse that informed me of all of that takes my ID card, says shes going to check me in and it might be awhile. About 10 minutes later she comes back, sits down in front of me and tells me that they are in the middle of an Ebola Outbreak Drill and they arent quite sure whats going on but there are 4 patients ahead of me and the doctor is in the room, quarantined with a patient and everything is basically at a stand still until the drill is over BUT there is no telling how long thatll be or that if its even really a drill (I know, I was confused at that statement too) ---- She goes on to tell me that they could have to call the CDC and wait for them to arrive or even Infectious Disease. She then hands me back my ID and tells me that its my choice and I can go ahead and reschedule for another day because shes afraid the wait for me might not be that worth it. I respond with a shocking, wait -- soo I AM allowed to walk out? --- She says, YES, just make sure that you go straight through the doors and out the main entrance and make sure you dont touch anything -- I think its fine because you havent had any contact with anyone or any room and you just walked in here. I grab my stuff and walk through the double doors out into the corridor where I see a man standing talking through his speaker phone -- he awkwardly smiles at me and I keep walking .. about 20 more steps before he yells out to me to come back where Im then promptly ESCORTED back into the quarantined waiting room. The nurse looks at me confused and responds with, Ooh thats CPT Lee out there - hes pretty serious .. maybe you should just stay here. ..... Literally not even 2 minutes later the doors are opened and the freaking drill is OVER! That CPT comes back to me and tells me its okay to leave and I try to explain to him that I was basically asked to leave by said nurse, it wasnt like I was ignoring their protocol and saying eff it and walking out on my own -- He didnt seem convinced. Anyways 5 minutes after that the SAME knowledgeable nurse comes over and says shes just spoken with the doctor and he just wants to give me a heads up on when Ill actually be seen --- she says somewhere around 6 (It was not even 2:30 at that time) ... and then comes in closer to say, which really means closer to 7:30-8. She suggests that I reschedule for Monday or even try the Emergency Room ... I tell her thanks anyways but Im sure Ill feel better all on my own by Monday and leave.... seeing no doctor and still feeling pretty miserable. Sorry for the book, it was just too crazy not to share.
