My (white) friend just explained to me how he doesnt understand why the Michael Brown story has garnered so much attention when there are much worse examples of police abuse. The example he decided to share was when LAPD opened fire on a truck that maybe matched the description of Christopher Dorners truck from last years man-hunt. It, in fact, was not his truck. This happened in the city he lives in and as such, is scary to think the police would just shoot at you for driving a truck...even if it isnt the same make or model theyre looking for. While I might normally appreciate his color-blindness, this is not the time for naivete. Our society has a fundamental racism that needs to be addressed. In an ideal world, the police would neither discriminate against you based on the build of your auto or the color of your skin but its imperative they stop the latter. You can change your car but you cant change your race.
