#MyThoughtsThisChildrensDay I think we all need to wake up to the new nigeria we live in now. Its not new because it is better, it is new to some of us, because it is worse than the vilest and most terrible imaginations a man could ever muster even if he was irreparably drunk. It is sad. But it is true. This current nigeria is NOT the nigeria I used to know growing up. And it certainly is NOT the nigeria I hoped for when I was little and we all optimistically said when I grow up...I will do and be so-and-so... Now i am grown up, or so I think:); and my beloved country is a nightmare and a total caricature in the committee of seriousminded nations. A nation I thought will be the envy of its neighbours now has its own citizens fleeing to countries like Ghana, Benin, Togo, even Chad :O all in the search for the proverbial greener pastures, yet these are sons and daughters of a land that was once green with milk and honey. Days like this Childrens day only makes me wonder what the nigerian child of today thinks of and hopes for in a nation like this. A nation where a young girl knows the only reason she can march in a stadium today is because she was fortunate not to have been in the north, or in a place or time where she could easily have been one of the 276 innocent young girls kidnapped some 43nights ago. As we dedicate today to the Nigerian Child, pls remember the missing Chibok children. Not just them, remember the homeless nigerian child who sleeps under lagos bridges, remember the underpriviledged nigerian child who runs in dangerous highways selling gala, remember the innocent nigerian child who has been a victim of the recent bomb blasts, remember the orphans who have lost their parents in Nyanya, Jos, Borno and everywhere else. If ALL I can do is a simple word of prayer, I will still say it. But I do hope to do more. I still believe in Nigeria. And I know one day- Good People, Great Nation- will not be a slogan but a fact! #Happy Childrens Day.
