Mythos Novel of the Month....Dagon. Since we are worshiping Dagon as our Great Old One of the Month it is fitting to have a topic on this novel, Fred Cappells highly acclaimed book Dagon. This novel was first published in 1968 and won Frances Best Foreign Book of the year Award in 1972. A rare feat for Mythos fiction. The story concerns a young preacher who inherits his familys estate in South Carolina. Not long after settling in he begins hearing odd voices whispering names like Cthulhu & Yog Sothoth & his academic research into the pagan god Dagon takes an interesting twist including getting involved with a mysterious & alluring but fishy woman...a priestess of Dagon? and murdering his young wife. Wont give too many details away..this is a fascinating psychological horror novel, a curious mix of realism and supernatural surrealism all dressed up in atmospheric Southern Gothic style. All making for a very interesting Mythos read. Mr. Chappell has also written a few Mythos short stories as well. So who hear has read this bold entry, esp for its time, into Mythos fiction?
