N76bn Scam: EFCC To Quiz Ex- Minister,IGP, Perm Sec and 5 Directors By Kenneth Atavti There is strong indication that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will soon commenced probe into the alleged scam in the N76 billion moribund police CCTV project, awarded to a Chinese firm, ZTE Corporation. A highly placed EFCC source at the commission headquarters in Abuja told Nigerian pilot that the operatives will be interrogating a one time minister of police Affairs,former Inspector General of police,IGP, Hafiz Ringim, the perm secretary in the minister when the contract was awarded and 5 other affected directors over their alleged involvement n the 76 billion scam. The source, also added that the operatives of the commissioner had already summoned the petitioner, Mr Olugbenga Adeyemi, who is to appear before the investigating team on June 18,204 to give some clarification. The human rights lawyer had asked the commission, in a petition dated May 8, 2014, to probe and prosecute those involved in the alleged scam, in the face of the increased tempo of terror attack in Abuja and other places where the security cameras were supposed to have been provided. He asked a Federal High Court in Abuja for an order of mandamus, seeking to compel the anti-corruption commission to act, with the judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, granting him leave to commence the process. The commission, however, responded after the order was granted, stating that it had already launched a probe into the alleged scam. Those listed to cooperate for probe on the controversial contract included the president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Nigeria Police, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria Communication Commission, ZTE Corporation and Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited. The court, however, substituted the president with the attorney general of the Federation.
