NABEI TO TAKE PART IN BANGSAMORO ISLAMIC FINANCE Monday, Mar 31 2014 Written by Hasmiene D. Ibrahim Print Email Al Qalam Institute (AQI) for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia together with Peace and Equity Foundation invited National Association for Bangsamoro Education, Inc. (NABEI) to join the three day training seminar workshop on the Crafting of Bangsamoro Islamic Finance last March 25-27, 2014 at El Bajada Hotel, Davao City. AQI Director Mussolini S. Lidasan articulated during his presentation on the rationale of the activity, “Our invitation to NABEI is our affirmation of the importance of the academe”. He added that our society would not achieve profound prosperity unless we would invest our citizens into exceptional education. International gurus on Islamic Economic and Finance from Indonesia arrived to discuss Shariah Finance and its practical application of principles to the communities in defining a workable Bangsamoro Islamic Finance suitable in the Philippine context. The Indonesian experts included Mr.Priyonggo Suseno from Universitas Islam Indonesia and Mr.KartikoWibowo, Binama Koperasi Syariah. They stressed, “Islamic Economic and Finance is a Value-Based Model. It aims, but not limited to, to serve communities, restrains consumer indebtedness, provides moral compass for capitalism, and offers success with authenticity”. Inputs were further enhanced through Atty. Jamil Matalam who discussed The Need for Islamic Financing in the Philippines and The Roles of People’s Organizations and Civil Society Organizations. He said, “Life is difficult. And one of our difficulties is lack of financing”. NABEI, the sole national educational body of the Muslim private school in the Philippines, withstands to address financial issues and concerns to convey quality education for the bangsamoro. The breakthrough action of private madaris provide positive result during recent madrasah interventions to be eligible recipients for the government financial support. This sustenance is seemingly temporary and not a guarantee as a vital response to the meagre quality of muslim schools. Many of the sectors of our community in which schools like madaris is not an exemption are gradually losing the quality of services or even worse, they tend to collapse because they lack to discourse the sustainability of their operation. NABEI’s participation in the seminar-workshop articulated the need to utilize the principles of Islamic Economic, Banking and Finance as one of the means to provide quality, effective, and efficient educational system in the Bangsamoro Homeland.
