ALL STUDY CENTRE DIRECTORS The school of law has been inundated with inquiries and in some cases with misinformation concerning graduating students and long essays. This letter seeks to provide students with a guideline on the subject matter: (1) Graduating Criteria To possess the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree of NOUN, a prospective graduand must: (a) Have obtained the prescribed admission criteria to wit: Minimum of 5 ‘credits’ in GCE/SSCE/NECO (including English language and Literature in English) and a pass in Mathematics. (B) Have spent a minimum period of 5 years as a registered student. (C) Have passed the following: All Compulsory Law Courses. All Compulsory Non-Law Courses. The university courses (general studies) (D) Acquired a total credit aggregate of 194. (E) Be of good behaviour. (2) Prospective Graduating Students: LONG ESSAY. In order to qualify for writing the Long Essay, a prospective graduating student must: (I) Have passed all courses up to and including 400 level courses or (ii) Have not more than two carry over immediately prior to 500level, first semester which the student must duly register against the 500 level first semester Examination. (3) Procedure for Long Essays: A student who has passed all courses up to and including 400 level or has not more than two carry over at the commencement of the 500 level first semester, is eligible to write the Long Essay. Such student is required to submit to his/her Director THREE proposed long essay topics for consideration of the School of Law Examination Committee. (3.2) What is required of Directors: The Directors are required to collate and forward to the Dean, School of Law the list of prospective graduating students together with their Matric Numbers and the three proposed Long Essay topics. (3.3) What is required of the Dean: On receipt of the list of prospective graduating students and their proposed long Essay topics, the Dean, upon the advice of the Examination Committee, will immediately select one of the three topics signified by the student and assign the student to a supervisor.
