NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA, NYCN OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER In commemorating the World Peace Day (18 September 2013) as endorsed by the United Nations, the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Abdullahi Abdulmajeed on behalf of his Executive Council Members and the over 70million Nigerian Youths, at home and in Diaspora wish to use this medium to congratulate the Secretary General of the United Nations, Presidents of African Union, ECOWAS, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the entire Presidents of all African Youth Councils and all world citizens for their commitment in the war for global peace. It is an indisputable fact that the rate of conflict and crises is on the increase in Nigeria and other parts of the world today. A critical appraisal of those that perpetuate criminal acts will show that youths form the bulk and among these youths are unemployed graduates but a substantial number of this group are undergraduates from different institutions of learning both secondary and tertiary institutions across the world, while numerous others are not even privileged to have access to education. Today, our educational institutions and communities are held hostage by different groups of criminals, cultists and terrorists who are also ready-made and willful instrument to perpetuate crime either as political thugs, kidnapers or even as assassins and suicide bombers . Dealing with today’s threats and crime prevention challenges requires broad, deep and sustained global cooperation. Thus the states of the world must create a collective security system to prevent terrorism, strengthen non-proliferation of arms, thereby bringing peace to violence torn areas, while also promoting human right, democracy and development. President Abdulmajeed hereby uses this historic occasion to admonish every Youth across Africa and the World and particularly Nigerians to always embrace peace in all situations despite the high level of provocations. He went ahead to advise war mongers, promoters of insurgency and civil disturbance world over, especially Nigeria, Syria and Egypt to sheath their swords and embrace peace in the interest of humanity. He further advised the Youths to prepare their future by avoiding crises and sign for peace in all activities in their different neighborhoods as conflict and war does not encourage Youth and Community Development. On a final note, the president thanked all Nigerian Youths for electing him and his Executive Council Members at the Minna 2013 Congress. He also thanked the Youths for their commitment and support in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for the implementation of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
