NC – BJP coming close to each other. Could form government in J&K If the election campaign is any indication, National Conference (NC) has seemingly made-up its mind to ally with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, even if PDP emerges as the single largest party on December 25 later this year. Proof of the pudding is in the eating! Party rank and file have seemingly been handed over a written script of speeches they would be making during ongoing election campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National President of BJP Amit Shah, who were focus of NCs campaign during the Lok Sabha elections, have both gone missing from the speeches and diatribe of both the leadership as well as candidates of NC. They are no more the targets. For NC rank and file, the new targets are PDP leaders especially the Chief Ministerial candidate Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti. Despite knowing well that BJP has already polarized the atmosphere and is banking heavily on Hindu vote bank unilaterally voting for it, NC is seemingly content with decimation of Congress in Jammu region. PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti minced no words when she attacked BJP for polarizing the atmosphere across Jammu. She even went on to allege that BJP is trying to create sectarian and communal divide for purely political reasons. But none in the National Conference (NC) spoke even a word about BJPs allege divisive plans. Instead, credible reports indicate that NC leaders have been praising both Shah and Modi in private to garner votes. Gujarat, fake encounters and other related issues which NC used to target Modi during the unsuccessful Lok Sabha campaign have seemingly all been forgotten. BJP is seemingly no more an enemy for NC. Sources said that the party sees an opportunity to come back to power with BJP in the state even if gets around 16 to 17 seats. Sources said that NC leadership is expecting BJP to win around 20 to 22 seats. With this number, sources maintain that NC is expecting central leadership of BJP to offer them the Chief Ministers chair on rotational basis. They added that party leadership especially the young blood and newcomers are even ready to give as many concessions as possible to BJP in return to being offered the chair of Chief Minister. The party expects Congress to perform poorly, said the sources. Convinced of winning around 15 to 17 seats, sources said that NC leadership does not Congress reaching double figure. They further said that NC think-tank is giving Congress 6 to 9 seats and hence, has already warmed up to BJP. NC seems to have stitched an alliance with BJP and are waiting for the results to be declared, said a senior Congress leader. We are shocked to hear NCs closeness with BJP. I remember Omars statement in the parliament during infamous Amarnath Land row. Now, the same mans close aides are stitching an alliance with BJP. How could someone be so unprincipled? Their election campaign speaks in volumes about their new found love, said a senior Congress leader. A peep in the past points to the support extended by corporators of National Conference to the RSS backed candidate in 1980. The incident is important in the wake of the fact that the man behind the alliance was founder of National Conference late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, revered as symbol of secularism and brotherhood. Sheikh not only aligned with Bharatiya Janata Party but also defended the same in public. More so, this stalwart of National Conference preferred alliance with Sangh Parivar over extending support to an independent candidate backed up by Congress, merely for teaching Congress a lesson for having ditched him earlier. Abdullah had described leaders of Congress as Tigdambaz (tricksters) and mad for power and called the RSS men his own Kith and Kin. Referring to the request of Congress to support its candidate, Sheikh had said Congress leaders met me and sought support for their candidate but I plainly told them to honour the peoples verdict and support the majority partys candidate for president ship. Instead of accepting this advice, they desired to indulge in horse-trading.
