NEW DELHI: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Thursday apprehended two women of African origin for allegedly trying to smuggle contraband pseudoephedrine worth over Rs 2.2 crore in the international market at IGI Airport. The two women were identified as Malawi national Viola Chanjira Mandota, 38, and Medina Adriano, 31, a Mocambicana national. According to CISF, in the wee hours of Thursday, a CISF check squad deployed at the Terminal-3 (T-3) of the IGI airport intercepted Adriano when she arrived to take a flight to Johannesburg. On finding her movements suspicious, security officials subjected the woman to a detailed frisking which led to the recovery of 20 kg of pseudoephedrine drug from her baggage. In a similar incident late on Wednesday night, CISF personnel stopped Malawi national Mandota when she arrived to catch her flight to Addis Ababa. 17 kg of the similar drug was recovered from her baggage during frisking, a senior CISF officer said. Both the women and the seized drug have been handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau. In separate incident, a US-bound man was arrested for carrying six live cartridges, the CISF said. Identified as S S Sandhu, 55, the man was detained by CISF for allegedly carrying six live bullets of .32mm pistol in his baggage. The incident occurred Wednesday night when Sandhu arrived at T-3 to travel to Chicago. As he could not provide any valid documents for possessing the bullets, he was later arrested by Delhi Police under various sections of the Arms Act, they said.
