NEW EMIR: “I WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH THE SELECTION OF NEW EMIR” SAYS GOV ALIYU By Pita Chikwem [Culled from the Daily Times Newspaper April 12, 2014 - 4:26pm] The Governor of Niger State Dr. Babangida Aliyu has vowed not to ever to interfere with the selection process of the new emir of Agaie saying that he would respect the wish of the people of the community. Aliyu made this position known yesterday in Kontagora at a turbaning ceremony. It would be recalled that Alhaji Kudu Abubakar (III) died at the age of 57 leaving the stool of the emirate vacant. Expectations are therefore rising as the people seek credible successor to continue the good work of the late emir. While governor Aliyu is waiting for the decision of the kingmakers, he has called on the people to choose wisely adding that what the people need is a leader that will encourage development, insist on peaceful coexistence through provision of security and advance collective aspirations of the people. Aliyu speaking to the people of zone C at the occasion whose turn it is to present the next governor urged them to eschew ethno-religious politics insisting that it is instructive they harness their social political multiplicity towards presenting a credible candidate for governorship in 2015. It is the turn of zone C based on the rotation policy of the PDP in Niger. It is therefore the responsibility of the people to choose candidate based on proven integrity to provide the state with dividend of democracy. If anybody wants to contest, they should be allowed to come then at the end, we choose the best candidate. On the integrity of aspirants, the Niger state governor emphasised that, anybody coming to deceive the PDP with the intention of withdrawing later for us to pay him money is wasting his time. We will look for candidates with merit based on proven track record of service. Dr. Aliyu while urging celebrant to be good ambassadors of the people stated that security issue must top their agenda at all times. Toeing the lines of the governor, the Sarkin Sudan Kontagora urged celebrants and elites of the region to work together to ensure peaceful elections anchored in brotherhood devoid of ethno-tribal sentiments. Persons turbaned include, Alhaji Mu,Azu Mohammed Bawa (Sarkin Yakin Kontagora), Alhaji Ibrahim Wali (Garkuwan Kontagora), Dr. Joshua Nuhu Bawa (Kauran Kontagora) and Hon.
