NEW GOLD DREAM On 17 August, at the small Yukon Territory pavilion (photo), representatives recalled the discovery of the first gold nugget in the Klondike. In spite of the heat and humidity, the Commissioner General, Mr. Dupuy, accepted a suit of red woollen long-johns underwear (photo), which were part of a complete prospectors outfit. He was also given a gold nugget. Then the Yukon delegation went out to discover Expos other pavilions. An American minesweeper and the Canadian destroyer HMCS Skeena moored to the Mark-Drouin Quay. Conference on the Soviet economy, by Professor V. Scutchenko, at the Pavilion of the USSR. At the Youth Pavilion, the retrospective of films by Norman McLaren of the national film Board ended with the presentation of seven short films film-midnight. The Indian Pavilion begins a series of nightly entertainments to be provided by the Kathak dancers. The Nova Scotian schooner Atlantica, whose construction was a major attraction throughout the summer at the Atlantic Provinces Pavilion, was put up for sale by tender in newspapers. Two RCAF officers, stationed in New Brunswick, began a water-skiing journey to Expo from Summerside. The American Society of Girl Watchers moved on to he Expo site this morning to begin a month-long search for the most “watchable girl at Expo”.
