NEW REPORTING PROCESS by A/Inspector Tim Chittenden As RFSQ moves to ensure that volunteers are seeing less red tape and are able to get on with the job of fighting fires, I am pleased to announce that a new system of incident reporting has been introduced as of the 1st of July 2013. This new method ensures that volunteers are not confronted by paperwork at the completion of a incident. This change means that the current process of completing a RF14s or contacting the 1800 reporting line are no longer required, by suppling Firecom with a few extra pieces of information we are able to complete the report at the area office using the Firecom transcript. Brigades are asked to ensure that this extra information is passed onto Firecom so that we are able to complete these forms without having to contact the brigade. From time to time it may be necessary for us to contact the brigade to clarify some information or confirm the details of an incident but this will be in only a small number of cases. This process is for both wildfire response and hazard reduction burning, however if it is a hazard reduction burn it is important that you identify this to Firecom. The Process On response to an incident the brigade simply needs to contact Firecom Northern as they have done in the past either by phone or radio however now you simply need to supply the Officer in Charge Name and the names of the crew. Example Firecom Northern this is Cungulla 51 responding to Grassfire OIC Jones crew of FF Smith and FF Blogs over. When you are completed at the fire you simply need to advise Firecom Northern of the size and the action taken Example Firecom Northern Cungulla 51 Code 4 Fire extinguished with hose reels approximately 25Ha burn overt. With this information your report is now complete. If the brigade has additional information to add to the report you simply need to contact Firecom via phone and have them add it to the report when you return to the station, this is also the case for any information that is out of the ordinary from the incident. As part of this change a new supplementary report form has also been developed if you would like to submit any additional information but we are encouraging brigades to do this via Firecom, remembering if the message is long and may be complicated it should be passed via the phone rather than the radio. The latest issue of the Rural Fires Bulletin also has some information on this new process, and in the coming weeks we will be providing brigades with appliance prompt stickers and A3 posters. If you have any questions or require any further information please don’t hesitate to contact me.
