NEWS 12-4-13 UINTAH DISTRICT CLOSED, DUCHESNE OPEN, HEAD START CLOSED: The Uintah School District has closed schools throughout the District today...According to Superintendent Mark Dockins, they feel that the roads in Uintah County are too dangerous to travel on with the snow and wind it is too dangerous to have students standing out on the roads waiting for school buses...He said, the district will make up the day on April 21st... The Duchesne School District will OPEN schools..According to Bruce Guymon, the County road department has plowed all the roads and the school buses will run...If you take your child to school or if they walk and you dont want them to go, you can keep them home... The Ute Tribe head start will be closed... The Ute Tribe administrative offices are closed and so is Uintah River High School... 300 FOOT FALL: 2 men are lucky to be alive after surviving a 300 foot fall... According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Pierce, on Monday night at around 10, a 46 year old male and a 19 year old male were traveling on elk horn loop when the driver lost control of the Dodge 2500 on snow packed roads and it rolled off the roadway...The truck then fell 300 feet landing on its top...The truck caught fire... The 46 year old driver was ejected...Occupants in another vehicle traveling with them, helped the occupants until medical personnel arrived and tried to put out the fire...The Neola Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames...The 2 men were taken by ambulance to the Uintah Basin Medical Center...The 46 year old was flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital...The 19 year old was treated and released from the Uintah Basin Medical Center... WINTER DRIVING: If you are planning to travel to the wasatch front during these winter months, you need to make sure you check out the Utah Department of Transportation website...It has a ton of information on road conditions and road closures...There are traffic cameras on highway 40 at the strawberry maintenance station, starvation reservoir, Daniels summit...On highway 191 at mile marker 265, 380 and at the Indian Canyon summit...There are also cameras on state route 35 wolf creek pass and state route 44 at mile marker 9... The cameras show the road conditions at those locations... That information may help you decide whether or not you want to travel that day...you can get the information you need by going to commuterlink.utah.gov... BRAHAM TO PRISON: In Eighth District Court in Vernal, 22 year old Jason Max Braham was sentenced to serve 0-5 years in the Utah State Prison for his guilty plea to 3rd degree felony escape from official custody...He was also given 1 year in jail on a misdemeanor count of attempting to damage a jail...Braham and Dallas Ephraim Derrick escaped from the Uintah County Jail in September 2012 after prying open a door and crawling thru a cold air intake...They were arrested a few days later in Nebraska...Derrick was also sentenced on the charges in August...The two men were state inmates serving their time in the Uintah County Jail...
