NEWS UPDATE AT 8AM WITH ORANGE Buganda road court has sentenced a city pastor to four years in jail for obtaining money by false pretence. Pr Elijah Ssemugabi of Christian faith centre Nsambya was found guilty of soliciting 25 million shillings from Mrs Phoebe Mukasa on grounds that the pastor was to help her secure two vehicles through a promotion that never took place. Buganda road court magistrate Araali Muhiirwa has also ordered Pr Ssemugabi to refund the stolen money to the owner. The Egyptian government has started clearing the decomposing vegetation commonly known as floating island at port bell Luzira. The vegetation that turns the water green and stinky had paralysed business at the port that handles merchandise imported ihnto the country from Kenya and Tanzania for more than a month. Uganda railways corporation marines’ manager Charles Ruzigye says that the vegetation was blown by the recent heavy rains. Banyala leaders in kayunga district have called for an immediate suspension of plans by Buganda kingdom to use some buildings in the district to house the proposed branch of Muteesa 1 Royal University. Through their premier Martin Ssenkatuuka, the Banyala argue that the move provokes clashes that can lead to bloodshed as it violates the August 2013 memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. Ssenkatuuka says that the agreement clearly stipulates that the Banyala are the rightful owners of all the buildings in the Kayunga and Nakasongola districts and thus Buganda kingdom cannot make any development in the area without the consent of Banyala officials. Pakistani police have charged 68 lawyers with blasphemy in what is thought to be the biggest ever case of its kind in the country.The charges were brought in Punjab after lawyers protested when police detained one of their colleagues.During the protest the lawyers are accused of insulting a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. Police say they acted after a local man complained. Abused Iraqi detainees is to be opened by the International Criminal Court (ICC).The ICC will analyse alleged crimes attributed to UK armed forces deployed in Iraq between 2003 and 2008.
